                    Adoption Day

Email from 9/9/08

All is going as expected with our new bundle of joy.  Cayenne (we kept her name) is adjusting remarkably well.  I can’t believe she’s been with us a whole week!!  She got her 2nd set of shots 9/4 and a clean bill of health.  She desperately wants our cats to like her and they still aren’t too sure.   One cat (Bell) & Cayenne are sleeping on the couch (opposite ends, of course) so we’re making progress.  She starts puppy class on 9/12.

Our family firmly believes that everything happens for a reason.  We filled out our first adoption application thru a different organization on July 29 and were approved on Aug 5, but after three weeks still didn’t have a puppy.  The puppy we were interested in took ill and couldn’t be adopted.

We decided to complete an application thru Freedom Rescue, even though it was two hours away.  We appreciated that their website informs you that the approval process is approximately 2 weeks.  Cindy called us the day we left for a camping trip, we were sooo disappointed when we got home and had a message on our machine.  Not to worry, we called and she asked some initial questions and advised she or someone would be calling our vet and references.   A few days later Cindy called and asked more extensive questions, educated us on “puppy mill” dogs and wanted confirmation that we were still interested.   The foster mom called and we arranged to go see her and as they say, the rest is history!!!  She’s adjusted to our home, two cats and family.  She’s made us laugh and brought lots of joy.  Learned to ring a bell to go outside after being shown only two times!!  Smart little darlin’…Sorry, proud mom moment.

Don’t be discouraged if your first choice falls thru it just wasn’t meant to be
